Bear Valley Schoolhouse Foundation Replacement – Pinnacles National Park
Treeline Construction Inc. is currently rehabilitating the historic Bear Valley Schoolhouse at Pinnacles National Park for the National Park Service. This is Phase 1 of the building’s long-term preservation. The wood-frame schoolhouse dates to the early 1900s and has sat for years on a failing foundation. This phase gives it a sound structural base for the work that follows.
Project scope includes:
Structural Lift and Foundation Replacement: In partnership with long-time collaborator Phil Joy House Moving, Treeline is hydraulically lifting the schoolhouse in place, removing the old foundation, and building about 90 linear feet of new reinforced concrete stem wall. The building will then be lowered back onto the new foundation.
Self-Performed Concrete: Treeline crews are handling excavation, forming and concrete placement for the new foundation system.
Cultural Resource Protection: A tribal monitor is present during all excavation to protect cultural resources at the site, coordinated with the NPS Cultural Resources Program.
Lifting and lowering a historic building takes careful sequencing, close coordination with NPS engineering and cultural resource staff, and great care with original materials. That combination is at the core of what Treeline does.
