Mariposa Grove – Lower Grove and South Lot - Yosemite National Park
As part of Yosemite National Park’s ongoing effort to enhance the visitor experience, Treeline Construction has played a central role in building new, durable, and environmentally integrated public facilities across the park’s southern gateway and Yosemite Valley.
At the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, Treeline Construction worked through the severe winter of 2016–2017—when snow depths exceeded five feet. One set of structures was constructed at the Lower Grove Arrival Area, serving as the drop-off point for visitors exploring the Sequoias, while the second, larger complex was built at the South Entrance, where it now serves as the Visitor Center, sales area, and comfort station.
Each building was designed to harmonize with the Sierra landscape, combining timber framing, log infrastructure, cedar siding, exposed wood ceilings, and stonework that provide protection from snow while blending seamlessly with the forest environment.
Following the 2021 Mono Wind Event, which caused significant damage to the Lower Grove Comfort Station, Treeline returned to reconstruct the building with the same level of care and craftsmanship that defined the original work.
Thsi project included the construction of the South Lot (formerly Camp 6)—a new visitor hub that includes a comfort station, interpretive plaza, bus shelter, and parking area. Treeline self-performed Divisions 1 through 9, including quality control, safety, and project management, while delivering a structure of exceptional craftsmanship and visual prominence. The building features timber framing, granite skirting, cedar siding, and cedar shingles, designed to complement Yosemite’s architectural language and withstand its demanding climate.
Treeline also constructed the visitor plaza and related civil and site components, including concrete walks, underground utilities, and custom 5’ x 10’ log benches milled in-house from downed sugar pines salvaged after the 2021 wind event. A timber-framed bus shelter and the placement of large granite boulders completed the site, creating a unified and welcoming space for visitors arriving in the Valley.
Both the Mariposa Grove and South Lot projects exemplify Treeline Construction’s expertise in executing high-profile, architecturally integrated park facilities within active public settings. Each project demonstrates the same commitment to quality, environmental stewardship, and timeless craftsmanship that defines Treeline’s work throughout Yosemite National Park.
