Tuolumne Meadows Campground Rehabilitation (2022 to 2025) - Yosemite National Park

Treeline Construction Inc. completed the full rehabilitation and restoration of eight historic restroom buildings at Tuolumne Meadows Campground—four Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) structures from the 1930s and four Mission 66 buildings from the 1960s. All eight are recognized as National Historic Landmarks, and the work required careful preservation of original materials and design character while upgrading each structure for modern accessibility and use.

The project included complete structural and architectural upgrades, selective demolition, hazardous materials abatement, new plumbing and concrete flooring, and full restoration of the historic exterior fabric. Treeline repaired and replicated original masonry, siding, windows, and doors, and replaced roofing in-kind using historically appropriate materials. The team also constructed one new restroom building—the first in Yosemite to be built using shotcrete construction—along with a prefabricated kiosk to expand visitor facilities within the campground.

Working at 8,600 feet, Treeline’s crews faced extreme conditions and an unusually short construction window due to Tioga Pass access limits and record-breaking snowpack. During the 2022–2023 winter, snow depths in Tuolumne Meadows exceeded 140 inches, with drifts reaching 15 feet. Despite these constraints, Treeline maintained continuity and productivity by housing its team on-site, working extended hours, and coordinating closely with other trades.

Through proactive communication, field-driven problem-solving, and a disciplined management approach, Treeline successfully delivered this complex rehabilitation with full compliance to National Park Service preservation standards. The project reflects Treeline’s expertise in managing logistically challenging, high-altitude work while preserving the historic and environmental integrity of one of Yosemite’s most iconic landscapes.
